BL Ships are the veritable anchor that makes or breaks the popularity of their respective shows. If the anchor is strong, it saves the ship (read TV ratings); or else the drama is doomed to sink.
Shipping is a serious business in the Asian BL industry, with legions of fandoms invested in the offscreen camaraderie between their beloved idol’s.
Welcome to the first Safe House of 2022, advertised as Couples’ Getaway, because unlike previous seasons where GMMTV had one or two shipped couples and a handful of others, this season had 5 pairs – OffGun, EarthMix, JimmySea, NeoLouis and JoongDunk. It was also a season where the gimmick was called ‘Best Bro Secret’: each member had a best bro looking out for them, sending messages through the producers, making their bros or others do tasks, and so on.
There is a time for weakness and a time for strength.
The Thai BL Not Me doesn’t know how to do anything halfway, and we’re all benefiting from their need to relay a well-rounded, genuinely emotional story.
