Regardless of where the series or drama originated, the Boys Love genre’s ongoing development in the performing business continues to have a significant impact. Today, we’ll talk about a specific BL Series that explores time travel. Yes! You’ve got that right! This BL is about time travel!
Time travelling seems to take a lot of work to produce an entertaining story, so I immediately sensed that this could be a fascinating journey. I was anticipating it even more since this is part of the acclaimed HIStory series, especially in light of its predecessors. I find it that I always get different results when I think of them together.
When it comes to the plot of HIStory 5: Love in the Future, I was a little confused by how the time frame changed from the year 2000 to 2022. I thought the change in time was rushed. Bo Wei, a delivery man in the year 2000, is suddenly catapulted to the future and discovers he has a new identity: Dai Johnny (Sean Chang). What puzzled me about this was that, if Bo Wei were to assume another person’s identity, he would undoubtedly have a ton of stuff to take care of before moving on to the main plot—seeing Hai Yi (Linus Wang). However, not a lot of time is spent on how exactly he suddenly became Dai Johnny or why. All we know is that there is a thread of fate that links him to Hai Yi since the year 2000. Bo Wei and Hai Yi follow the typical boys’ love relationship formula: they begin as strangers, have many misunderstandings, and eventually click. After this, they formally become partners and go through the typical “It’s not about you, it’s about me” phase. Bo Wei’s dilemma of staying in the future to be with Hai Yi or returning to 2000 to his grandmother put their relationship to the test. How does it all end? Well, let me just say that I was upset by the fact that Bo Wei’s choice was not realistic—I won’t give anything away, though.
I was more interested in the second leads: Vincent (Anson Chen) and Wynn (Jason Tauh). In fact, second leads have always caught my attention in all HIStory Web series. Vincent is the company’s determined and committed head who always strives to produce exceptional results and earn the highest praise for both the business and himself. Wynn is a driven young man who is the office’s new recruit, eager to give something back to the company that has supported him since he was a young orphan. The chemistry between Vincent and Wynn is unquestionably fantastic. You can see that they are being sincere in their performances and portraying who they really are. Their story shows that love really does wait. When you put your trust in someone, you’ll probably find the glory you’re after. In a specific episode, Vincent reveals that Wynn was his longtime crush, proving that he most certainly possesses the qualities of a good lover. He patiently waited for the ideal moment to spend time with Wynn. Their experience also shows that age is not always relevant and never will be. As for their ending, I truly like how their love story concludes in contrast with the main leads.
This series has 20 episodes, but there is no doubt that there is much room for improvement. There are many gaps in the plot and numerous sudden transition changes. At some point, I got the impression that some of the actors didn’t get along well with one another. I’m not sure what is lacking in Bo Wei/Dai Johnny’s performance, but I feel like there is something that he needs to work on if he wants to have the same degree or even greater chemistry with Hai Yi as Vincent and Wynn did.
On a positive note, I did adore the soundtrack, particularly when it was played during memorable scenes starring Vincent and Wynn. While the show may have a lot of areas that work well, let’s hope for more thrilling and fascinating HIStory plots in the future!

While this might not have been the best of the HIStory installments I felt it lived up to what I’ve grown to expect from the franchise and what is coming out of Taiwan in BL content.
