Kisses are an integral part of intimacy and comfort between most couples; more so between BL pairings.
They could be sensual, passionate or soft; everyone has their own preferences. In short, these scenes betray the chemistry between the characters and define their relationship. In today’s edition, our authors will be sharing their favorite kissing scenes; especially the ones that made their heart flutter endlessly!
You could even title it as ‘an ace child who does not know what they’re doing’.
I’m just kidding. In fact, this was quite an easy one. Some of them are more obvious choices than others, I suppose.
Every Kiss between Pat and Pran in Bad Buddy the Series (2021-’22)
These two have been ever so important ever since I first saw them in The Blacklist. My investment in them may have played a part, but I don’t think anyone can ever deny how beautiful the kisses between Ohm and Nanon are in this series. Each one of them is so precious, and whether it’s the soulful, heart-wrenching kiss on the rooftop or the tiny pecks they exchange randomly, they make their viewers so soft.
The Imaginary Kiss in See You After Quarantine (2021)
The main highlight for me in this short and cute quarantine series was this one kiss from episodes 6-7 which gave its viewers a taste of the actual kiss between Bo Chen and Akihiro. This kiss, to me, was more real than any other. Although the plot told me that it was an imaginary one, my head refused to believe it. It almost felt like the passion between them was going to swallow me whole (I’m cringing right now because I can’t believe I just wrote that).
The Cute and Comfortable Kiss in Secret Roommate (2020)
These two are probably my favourite already-established couple ever in any BL series. Their chemistry just took the simple plot of this series to another level. Yeonghoon and Taeho’s kisses on the chair in their bedroom is a perfect example of how things escalate from soft to fiery in the span of a minute. Part of the allure is how adorable and comfortable they are with each other, and I am here for it.
The Forehead Kiss in A Tale of Thousand Stars (2021)
This one was not scripted. Kkeut. That’s all I want to say.
In all seriousness, this was probably one of the most natural kisses I’d seen (at least until Bad Buddy was released). It made me happy and broke my heart at the same time because of how pained Chief Phupha looked when he bid Tian goodbye. This scene lives in my head and my heart rent-free, and it’ll likely stay that way for a long time.
The Most Anticipated Idol-Kiss in Tinted With You (2021-’22)
There were three reasons as to why I started watching this BL series—it’s an idol romance, it has elements of historical romance and time-slip fantasy in it, and (probably the most important one) it has Park Junhee aka my child from A.C.E. The anticipation for this kiss—whether it’s going to be a real one or a kiss in name only, from some random angle where you can’t figure it out. Episode 5 put my worries to rest. The kiss was real, making it a very important moment in the history of K-pop, with Jun moving on from singing an OST for Light on Me to having a soft and sweet kiss in his first drama ever. I was ugly-crying even before I got to the kiss, partly because Instagram spoiled it for me and I already knew it was real before I saw it.
A Sunday Bite article without a ‘special mentions’ section on my watch? Highly unlikely.
☆ A huge shoutout to some really great kisses—Long Time No See’s burning kiss scenes between Chisoo and Gitae with its funny and fumbling moments (my first ever STRONGBERRY kiss scene, which makes it even more special);
☆ The passionate make-out session between Dongsoo and Inpyo in Some More (with beautiful conversations about Seoul Pride);
☆ And the underwater kiss between Teh and Oh Aew in I Told Sunset About You (although what happened right after was frustration galore).
For me, kisses or physical intimacy of any kind has never been a requisite in a BL; it’s more about the feeling of wanting the characters to kiss, building up that tension that may or may not be resolved. The kisses on my list may not be particularly hot or passionate, but those I felt an emotional attachment to.
The Forehead Kiss in A Tale of a Thousand Stars
To no one’s surprise, this is top of my list. Don’t get me wrong, the final kiss on the mountain at the end of the series is one of my favourites too but this – Phupha and Tian reuniting that the airport before Tian leaves for America, a hug leading to this unscripted moment of intimacy feels like a wonderful climax to an already emotional scene.
Khai and Third’s Floor Kisses in Theory of Love
Once again, while I love the Big Damn Kiss scene that finally lets Khai and Third’s feelings be out there in the open, I also love the cuteness of the floor kisses between the two characters at the end. Theory of Love takes them on a long journey towards meeting each other halfway, and the playful smooches help establish how happy they are now that they’re together.
Shu Yi and Shi De on the bridge in We Best Love: No.1 for You
I love everything about this scene. Shu Yi shouting about his love for Shi De in Japanese, his not-at-all subtle possessiveness, and a passionate, emotional kiss to top it all off.
Dean and Pharm’s first kiss in Until We Meet Again
DeanPharm were not my favourite couple in UWMA (because WinTeam stole it from them) but I can’t deny that their first kiss was just so beautifully done. Emotional and sweet and hitting all the right notes.
We will be back next week with the third edition of this feature. So till then, keep watching this space as we bring you more updates from the Asian BL World!
