Upcoming Asian BL Dramas- Part X

It’s raining Thai BL’s and today’s news feature will be solely dedicated to some of the most anticipated shows in the upcoming months as well as the first quarter of 2022.

Although the bleak Covid-19 situation continues to put a downer, the Boy’s Love universe seems unaffected. The weekly premiere of new shows is a testament to this fact. As such, let’s take a dive into the Thai shores and find some new gems that are taking the social media by storm!

Bad Buddy The Series

Obviously one of the most anticipated shows in the “GMMTV 2021” line-up, “Bad Buddy” premieres this weekend. The popular Frigay spot is being redeemed. While its predecessor “Fish Upon The Sky” received mixed reviews, fans are expecting great things from this drama. The heavily overused “Enemies To Lovers” trope might seem cliché, but GMMTV is banking on the promise of a refreshing chemistry between main leads Ohm Pawat and Nanon Korapat. Ohm Pawat is a popular name in the BL circles, because of his versatile repertoire that includes Make It Right (S1 & S2), He’s Coming to Me and the emotional sojourn Dew the Movie. For Nanon, Bad Buddy is his first full-fledged BL role. It remains to be seen if Ohm and Nanon will be successful in launching a new ship or will their onscreen romance fail to capture the audience’s attention?

Ever since they were young, Pran and Pat’s fathers’ had a deep and raging rivalry — trying to one-up each other on everything. This also extended towards their sons. Comparing their sons’ achievements and merits, whether it be academic or extracurricular — the two fathers left no stones unturned to outshine and gloat in front of the other. It was almost like rivalry was passed down as a family heirloom and the two boys became rivals as well. Until… they grew tired and became friends. Really good friends. However, because of their fathers’ rivalry, their friendship had to be kept under wraps. And so began a journey of secret friendship… and then perhaps a sweet secret romance?

☆ Ohm and Nanon were recently featured in the sixth volume of Mint Magazine. They do look delectable together!

Nilundon The Series

With three different couples, I’m totally looking forward to the premiere of this upcoming drama. While Onzon Creative 365’s previous venture “Cupid Coach” failed to make the mark, there is a lot of anticipation surrounding “Nilundon”. Starring Tie Sukij and Nut Nutchapon in the titular roles of Nilun and Don, the premise is based on the blossoming romance between a famous hotel heir and a common barista.

In this love story, Don is a freelance photographer and heir to a famed Seoul hotel and restaurant business. Following the death of his family, Don is called back to Thailand according to his father’s final wishes. It’s when his heart is shattered that he meets Nilun, a gregarious young barista. Meanwhile, producer Pun is head-over-heels in love with her close friend Min, a mischievous YouTuber, while veterinarian Pasin has fallen in love with Don’s impish cousin Arlex.

The excitement surrounding this drama is unprecedented; understandably so. Produced by Newsinfinity Entertainment (for those who don’t know, News Infinity is the moniker used by Ohm’s Manager), this show is a fervent attempt to pacify the worldwide fandom of popular onscreen couple OhmFluke. Nearly two years later, after they starred in the reincarnation saga “Until We Meet Again”, Ohm Thitiwat and Fluke Natouch will be playing a romantic couple again. You can obviously deduce the kind of fanfare and anticipation that this show is going to garner in the upcoming months. This show is another show with a ginormous cast and I’m totally looking forward to the marketing and promotional activities!

“WeTV 2022 Original Reveal” has some interesting lineups. One of those intriguing shows is the mystery romance “609 Bedtime Story”. The drama banks on the intersecting premise of Parallel Universe. There are speculations that Ohm Thitiwat and Fluke Natouch will be playing the lead roles of Mum and Dew. Adapted from author Bam Bam’s novel of the same name, “Cutie Pie The Series” is Mandee Channel’s (Producers of the highly popular Thai BL “Why R U The Series”) third venture in 2021 (alongwith Middleman Love and Bed Friend The Series). Mandee recently released a trailer for this upcoming drama; the sizzling chemistry between main leads Zee Pruk Panich and New Chawarin has already set the dice rolling in their favor. Banking on the unusual premise of an arranged marriage between a same-sex couple, Zee Pruk will portray the role of arrogant businessman Hie Lian, while newcomer New Chawarin will be playing his better half, Kuea.

Art Adore En The Series

There was a lot of speculation and controversy surrounding the casting process of this show. The production house have finally announced the cast and it is an interesting mix of old and new names.

Ray, an art major from abroad is a playboy with handsome looks and a standoffish personality. He finds himself rooming with Lloyd, an innocent English major with a sheltered and simple background. Following the success of Gen Y The Series Season One, the sequel will focus on the love lives of main couple Mark and Kit and their variant friendships. The entire cast from Season One will be reprising their roles. As such, we can expect lots of romance; not just between the main couple but the popular side couples which include Thanu & Wayu, Pok & Tang. Season One saw an invariable love triangle between Thanu, Wayu and Phai played by Dun Romchumpa, Bas Suradej Pinnirat and Pon Thanapon. This coupling was put to vote and fans voted in favor of Thanu and Wayo. After the cliffhanger ending in the finale, the sequel will probably showcase a different side of Thanu and Wayo’s love story. The show is set to premiere on 12th December, 2021. It is yet to be seen if the drama will have an international premiere on IQIYI.

Here are some exclusive pictures from the blessing ceremony!
